First announced during today’s Nintendo Direct, Square Enix revealed that a slew of the most popular games in one of gaming’s most popular franchises, Final Fantasy, will soon be making their way to new platforms for the first time ever.

During the Direct, we learned that Final Fantasy XV: Pocket Edition is out right now on Switch with World of Final Fantasy: Maxima making its way to the console in November. Also announced were Chocobo’s Mystery Dungeon, which will release this winter and Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Remastered which will land in 2019. The announcements didn’t stop there, though. Also, in 2019, Final Fantasy VII, Final Fantasy IX, Final Fantasy X and X-2, and Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age will all also be arriving on the platform.

Soon after this reveal during the Direct, it was announced that in addition to coming to Switch, all of those same aforementioned titles other than Chocobo’s Mystery Dungeon and Crystal Chronicles Remastered will also be arriving on Xbox One. This is the first time ever that many of these titles have ever made their way to non-PlayStation platforms, which is perhaps the most surprising part of this announcement. That said, most of these games in question have been remastered within the past few years and with Square’s ability as a third-party publisher to bring their games to any platform, it’s a pretty logical move to make.

On a personal note, I’ve never played most of these games so their arrival on other platforms makes me really happy. Final Fantasy VII I specifically feel guilty for having never played and I’m excited to hopefully have time to dig into it next year on my Switch.

Currently, we don’t have any specific window for the 2019 games that will be coming to Xbox One and Switch, but we should learn more in the coming months.
