It seems that the ongoing success of the battle royale genre is not exclusively self-contained. Instead, games such as Fortnite and PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds are positively impacting external companies.
Gaming headset company Turtle Beach has released the figures for their second quarter of the fiscal year with overwhelmingly positive results. The financial report shows that the company’s new revenue has jumped from $19.1 million to $60.8 million with the net income skyrocketing to $6.3 million, making this their most successful second quarter in four years.
The increase in earnings is in part due to Fortnite and PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds continued popularity. With millions of people playing each of these titles, it makes a lot of sense that those same players would be in the market for gaming headsets so that they can communicate with others online. This correlation has not gone unnoticed by the people behind Turtle Beach’s audio equipment.
Speaking to Variety on the topic following the year’s first quarter Turtle Beach CEO Juergen Stark said he believed that the battle royale titles had driven gamers to purchase more headsets, which in turn has led to the company tightening their focus to deal with the extra demand.
Fortnite is out now on PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Switch, iOS, and Android while PlayerUnkown’s Battlegrounds is available on PC, Xbox One, iOS, and Android.
