Pokemon Marathon Charity Stream For St. Jude Live From June 8-15

3DS, Culture, News, Originals, Platforms, Pokémon Omega Ruby / Alpha Sapphire

All this weekend, charity gaming group TheSpeedGamers will be streaming Pokemon Omega Ruby as a part of their St. Jude charity campaign. The goal of this Pokemon Marathon? Collect all Pokemon and fill out the Pokedex from June 8-15.

It’s a lofty goal, for sure, but all donations and proceeds made during the stream will be donated to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, helping the families of children affected by cancer to not only pay for treatment but also food and housing. The stream has a $50,000 goal, which tops out their previous stream record of $40,180 during their Zelda Marathon in 2016.

TheSpeedGamers offered donation rewards, including nicknames for starter Pokemon evolution lines, the names and genders for the player characters in the games, and the rival names. Pokemon line nicknames are $50 each, and names for either a player character or a rival are $75 each. Other rewards differ as the stream goes on, including forcing the streamers to draw Pokemon from memory for $5 (even if they aren’t real Pokemon) and other fun little incentives. You can also just donate.

You can check out a stream of the current game on Twitch right now. The “stream season” will be ongoing until the end of June, during which the folks at TheSpeedGamers plan to play quite a bit of Pokemon. You can check out the schedule here. It’s for a good cause, so if you’re interested, be sure to check out the stream.
