During Activision Blizzard’s financial conference call for investors and analysts, Chief Operating Officer Coddy Johnson talked about Call of Duty: Black Ops 4.

Johnson mentioned that it’s going to be an “awesome game” and will give the community an “incredible experience” across features and modes. There are a number of reason behind the strength of the title, and the first is simply that “it’s Black Ops” which is the most played COD franchise to date. It counts two hundred million players and billions and billions of hours of gameplay, and that’s still growing.

The second advantage is that Black Ops 4 builds on what Treyarch has learned that players love as they watch them play in real time during these billions of hours. The third main area is the confidence Activision has in Treyarch and their ability to execute on their creative vision. It’s an “incredible developer with a deep understanding of the community and the first person genre.” They also have a proven track record in innovation both in Zombies and multiplayer.

The last point is that the game won’t just build on the franchise’s strengths. It will continue to push the envelope of innovation. According to Johnson we’ll see that in the core game itself, with a number of “new exciting developments” that will roll out “very soon,” but also in the game’s appeal on “growth platforms” like PC, to which Activision invested “significant dedicated resources” to make sure they can deliver a “great PC game” to serve the community.

A lot more will be said at the global reveal on May 17th.
