Today Kadokawa Games released another new batch of screenshots and artwork of its upcoming open-world vehicle-driven JRPG Metal Max Xeno.

We get to see the Type-10 tank, which is the main battle tank of the Japanese Self-Defense force. It’s one of the models that can be acquired earlier in the game, and it’s a solid core for any party.

Another interesting concept is the customization chip, that can be inserted into a specific socket in any vehicle. Various chips can be found by defeating monsters or stored in containers. They can radically alter the behavior of the base vehicle by adding new attacks or improving performance.

This is important when fighting specific types of monsters. For instance, Griftoro is a flying fortress, and it’s very difficult to hit under normal conditions. By equipping “Anti-aircraft power” the hit rate of all weapons against flying enemies dramatically increases, making the battle easier.

Boss-class monsters like the Warship Sauris and the Mothership Saurus have powerful armor, and they’re impervious to weak attacks. By using the “Cannon Rush” chip you can fire all your weapons at once against a single target, increasing your firepower against such enemies.

You can check out the screenshots below. If you want to see more, you can check out the first trailer and screenshots, and a second batch featuring more characters, and the third, also showing members of the cast. A brand new trailer was also recently released.

Metal Max Xeno will launch in Japan exclusively for PS4 and PS Vita on April 19th. A western release was also announced, but we don’t have any details yet. We don’t even have any information on who will publish it for now.
