NieR: Automata Director Yoko Taro’s Video Has Thanks for D.I.C.E. Award, Apology for Not Being There

Today Square Enix released a new video featuring NieR: Automata Director Yoko Taro, and Producer Yosuke Saito.

The video intends to thank the Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences for the D.I.C.E. Award given to the game as Best RPG of 2017.

Of course, it wouldn’t be a Yokyo Taro video without an hilarious part, which has roots in the ceremony itself. When the award for NieR: Automata was announced, no one from Square Enix was present to receive it, causing a small awkward moment.

As the video message explains, Square Enix simply did not expect to receive the award, so the video ends with Takano-san from marketing prostrating himself to apologize while wearing a spare Yoko Taro Mask.

To be fair, with how most Japanese games are treated at these mainstream awards, I can’t really blame them for not expecting it.

You can check out the video below. We recently learned that the game passed 2.5 million units summing up sales and shipments.
