Angry Birds Developer Rovio Closes London Studio

Rovio’s small London studio will be closing its doors just after its opening last year.

The news of the studio’s closing comes from studio head Mark Sorrell via Twitter with the following statement:

It’s with a heavy heart that I tell you the @rovio London Studio is going to close. Sad times for us, but I look back with genuine pride at my time with these talented and kind people. Been quite a ride.

The Executive Producer and Senior Game Developer of the now-closed studio, Will Luton and Geraldo Nascimento respectively, have also taken to the social platform to express themselves on the matter. Nascimento briefly discusses his time with the studio, “working with this team was an incredibly special experience.”

Similarly, Lutton stated, “these really are the most talented people I’ve ever worked with. And an incredible team.” In regards to his experience with the Angry Birds developer, he remarked, “my 18 months at Rovio has been incredible.”

Rovio’s London studio opened in January 2017 housing a seven-person team. Typically known for its Angry Birds franchise, the new studio was working on a new IP set on being an MMO.

In other Angry Birds news, a second Angry Birds movie is set to release in September 2019. It will be directed by Thurop Van Orman, who has previously worked on The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack and Adventure Time and written by Peter Akerman who is known for his work on The Americans.
