Muv-Luv Alternative: Strike Frontier Gets New Attack on Titan Event and Lots of Free SRR Pilots and TSF

Normally free-to-play mobile games tend to give you as little as possible for free, trying to make you hit a soft wall so that you feel compelled to pay in order to progress. Muv-Luv Alternative: Strike Frontier seems to be an exception.

The game provides its players with a lot of SSR pilots and TSF (the mecha that appear in the title) weekly, that can be acquired simply by grinding, with no gacha involved. You either drop them (rather easily) from the event missions, or you unlock them with daily bonuses or points earned by playing. Of course, there is also plenty of gacha, but you can build your squad up with all the powerful characters you need without paying a dime.

Funnily, the game is published by DMM, which is often seen as a king among predators in the field, which makes their policies for this title even more baffling (in a good way).

The developer just launched two events. The first is the second part of the Attack on Titan crossover, and the second is titled Squad C and the Night Before the Decisive Battle – The Ultimate Class.

The Attack on Titan event lets you grab Eren Yaeger and Minori Shirakawa as SSR pilots, and an AOT-themed Type-97 Fubuki, Annie Leonhart, and Reiner Braun in titan form as SSR TFS  (yes, titans in this event are considered mecha, and you can put a pilot in them, which I guess isn’t so weird if you think about it) via gameplay means. The related gacha comes with Armin Arlelt, Mikasa Ackermann, Mikoto Yoroi, and Kei Ayamine in the gacha. The most relevant element (besides the funny mix of Attack on Titan and Muv-Luv characters, themes, and costumes) is that they’re all Hope-type, which is new and quite rare in the game for now, but really convenient to fight Despair-type enemies.

The Squad-C event provides players with a SSR Yuuko Yuuki and her own purple Type-97 Fubuki. The gacha comes with Rinka Osawa, Caroline Shields, and her American flag-colored Type-97 Fubuki.

That’s a total of three SSR pilots and four SSR TFS in a week that can be earned without touching a single gacha. I don’t know many other free-to-play mobile games that do this.

While in the first part of the event the  Muv-Luv cast found itself in the Attack on Titan world, this time is the other way around, with the AOT heroes ending up returning the visit. While this crossover may seem weird to many, it really isn’t so strange. The Muv-Luv setting is basically based on the concept of alternate dimensions, and Attack on Titan creator Hajime Isayama has cited it as a major source of inspiration for his manga.

Do keep in mind that the Attack on Titan event is playable only on the all-ages version of the game, but once you have unlocked its goodies, they will be available on the R-Rated version as well.

Below you can check out all the goodies, which is also a chance to see some Attack on Titan characters in unusual situations. The game is currently available only in Japanese for iOS, Android, and PC via browsers.

In other Muv-Luv news publisher Ixtl just announced a partnership with PQube to bring the PS Vita version of Muv-Luv and Muv Luv Alternative to the west, while the PC version should be returning to Steam this month.
