Following a leak fom Famitsu this morning, Capcom reached out with a press release to make the HD remaster of Okami official, aptly titled Okami HD.
Alongside the announcement we get the first trailer, the box art for PS4 and Xbox One, alongside the clean key art, and the first screenshots in shiny 4K resolution.
The game will launch for PS4, Xbox One and PC in North America and Europe on December 12th, priced at a pretty affordable $19.99. Interestingly, both PS4 and Xbox One will also get a physical release on top of the digital launch, while the PC version will be available only on Steam.
The graphics have been updated to take advantage of modern resolutions, and 4K will be supported on PS4 Pro, Xbox One X and PC.
Okami was originally released in 2006 for PS2, and then ported to Wii in 2008 and to PS3 in 2012.
The game, inspired by Japanese folklore and legends, tells the story of the goddess Amaterasu, who travels the land to dispel a curse cast by the eight-headed demon Orochi, accompanied by the artist Issun. It’s well known for its absolutely charming art style and for the unique gameplay based on the celestial brush mechanic.
“In Okami HD players take on the role of Amaterasu, the Japanese sun goddess who inhabits the form of a legendary white wolf Shiranui on a quest to defeat Orochi, an eight-headed demon and tyrannical monster responsible for turning the world into a ruined wasteland. Players must use Amaterasu’s magical abilities and arsenal of items, attacks and Celestial Brush techniques to restore the land of Nippon to its previous glory full of life and color. Along the way, Amaterasu will be called upon to help a cast of quirky and intriguing characters and defeat a bevy of brutal enemies to rid the land of Orochi’s curse.”
Interestingly, it’ll be possible to toggle between widescreen format or the original release’s 4:3 aspect ratio. The Interactive loading screens from the original game on PS2 will also be included, allowing you to earn bonus demon fangs which you can be trade for in-game items.
